At Stanwell Park Public School the Student
Representative Council is a proactive group of students made up
of 2 representatives from each class from Years 1-6 plus the
School Captains. Elections are held in Term 1 and again at the
beginning of Term 3 to ensure as many children as possible are
given the opportunity to serve on the S.R.C.
The S.R.C. meets at least twice a term
(usually) in weeks 3 and 8. They vote on a charity at the
beginning of each year and this becomes the student body’s main
fund raiser. In past years it has been The Starlight
Foundation, Make-a-wish Foundation, Stewart House and Cancer
Council. This year the SRC have chosen to support the
Victorian Bushfire victims.
At each meeting the representatives from each
year, starting from year 1 take turns to bring up any issues
from their class relating to student welfare or safety issues
around the school. Any major issues, such as which charity, are
then voted on and the majority rules. Minutes of the meeting
are then passed on to the Principal and suggestions are then,
where possible, acted upon. The meetings are held at lunchtime
in the library and are chaired by Mr Bailey who oversees the
running of the S.R.C. |
