Peer Support

The Peer Support Program is an integral component of the school’s Student Welfare Policy.  This program promotes student leadership and fosters a caring, supportive school atmosphere.  The students in Years 5 and 6 are trained in leadership during Term 1 and are given the responsibility of leading a group of younger students.

All students of the school become members of small, vertical groups led by the senior students during Term 2.  Friendship, tolerance and anti-bullying topics are developed and presented as lessons.

The benefits of this program are:                                                                                                       Peer Support Training at Camp

  • The size of the groups allows for maximum interaction amongst the children.

  • Years 5 and 6 learn vital communication skills, leadership skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Opportunities are provided for children to experience the benefits of positive peer interactions.

  • Positive self-esteem is a focus of peer support and is reinforced through peer interactions.

  • Students with a high self esteem are better equipped to concentrate in class, to learn, to tackle new tasks and to lead a healthy lifestyle.
