School Choirs

“Thank you for the music, the songs we’re singing.  Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing…” – a loved theme song for the choir.

Choir gives students the opportunity to experience and organise sound through singing, exploring concepts such as pitch, rhythm, tone, colour, listening, harmony, movement and performance.  In our choir we share in voice, which brings about a great deal of happiness and enjoyment as we learn a variety of songs for different occasions – Easter, Anzac Day, Peer Support, Christmas and for the Wollongong Schools Combined Choral Festival.

This Festival allows children to perform with 400 other children from different schools under a combined conductor with professional accompaniment.

In 2006, Mrs Bedwell organised the senior choir (all Year 6 students) to take part in Southern Stars.  Southern Stars was a brilliant extravaganza from start to finish and what makes it truly spectacular is the fact that all performers, dancers, musicians and choir are all students of local Public Schools.  The  Southern Stars was a truly professional event and will be remembered by all who took part for many years to come.

Our students played their part with our senior choir group thoroughly enjoying their performances.  Over the three days and six performances the students sang strongly and their outstanding behaviour at all times was a credit to themselves and our school.

At school we sing lots of songs and perform in assemblies and on special occasions.  Practice is at 8.30am on Tuesday morning and again in our music lesson at 11.30am on Thursday.  Choir is a wonderful discipline and our children are dedicated and supportive in our practice times.  We have a simple philosophy:

“….people who believe in music are the happiest people I’ve ever seen…”
