PREMIER'S SPELLING BEE FINALS

Congratulations to our four representatives who performed so well at the District Finals of the Premier’s Spelling Bee this week at Bellambi Public School.  In this form of competition, each student is asked to spell a word in turn.  The words are selected from lists which get progressively harder and one mistake means elimination from the competition.  Denver  and Matthew  represented in the Stage 2 division held in the morning session.  Nicola  and Sophie  represented in the Stage 3 division.  Many thanks to our wonderful parents who transported the representatives and some support students to Bellambi for the event.

Congratulations to both Denver and Matthew who did extremely well , with Denver reaching the 2nd round and Matthew reaching the fifth round - an excellent effort. Congratulations also to Nicola who made it to the 4th Round – an outstanding effort!

Sophie lasted through many rounds of “seen” words until there were very few competitors left.  To separate the final competitors the words were drawn from an “unseen” list for a number of rounds.  This was whittled down to two competitors, Sophie and a girl from Austinmer PS.  The girls went word for word for a number of rounds.  As you can imagine, the tension was extremely high.  Finally, Sophie’s opponent made a mistake.  Sophie was crowned the Regional Champion!  Outstanding Sophie, we are very proud of you.  Sophie will now compete at the State Finals to be held at the ABC Centre in Sydney early next term.  Good luck Sophie!
