In June the Stage 3
students participated in a three day excursion to Canberra. The
excursion was a tremendous success with the students visiting a
range of venues including Parliament House, National Museum, War
Memorial, Questacon (National Science Centre) and the Institute
of Sport among others. We also visited the High Court of
Australia and, after a guided tour of a magnificent building,
actually sat in on a court case. The teachers were extremely
proud of the behaviour of the students throughout the
excursion, but especially in the High Court.
A highlight was the visit
to Parliament House where the students witnessed voting in the
Senate as well as visiting the House of Representatives. Sharon
Bird, our local member, spoke to the students about her role in
the Parliament. |

Excursions such as these
are very valuable learning experiences with teachers and
students working together in a variety of new situations to
reinforce and expand upon the themes studied in various
subjects.
As previously mentioned,
the teachers were extremely impressed with the overall behaviour
of the students of Years 5 and 6. This was reinforced by the
comments of members of the public, staff at various venues and
our bus driver/tour guide who commented most favourably on the
outstanding behaviour of Stanwell Park students.
A special thank you must
go to Mrs Bradley and Mrs Bedwell for their outstanding
organisation and to Mrs Bedwell, Mrs Bradley and Mrs Phillips
for their willingness to give their time and effort to take such
a large group of students on excursions such as these.
