STAGE 3 ANTARCTIC VISIT

On the 3/11/09, Chris O’llsen, an Antarctic Adventurer, came to Stanwell Park Public School and showed year 5 & 6 all about Antarctica. He brought in his tools, gear and other equipment in for us, including real ice from Antarctica.

Firstly, he showed us a video with pictures he had taken while was there. Chris told us what it was like to live over there in the harsh conditions. He showed us before and after pictures showing how radically the ice is melting and the beautiful wildlife dying.

Secondly, we were shown clothes, tools, rocks, ice, and even smells from Antarctica. We got to wear clothes Chris wore, touch the rocks he had brought back, touched the ice from Antarctica, smelt what a Penguin smells like and we even got to use his pick to hit a block of ice which we than rubbed all over us because we were hot on a boiling hot day.

Finally, he had to pack up and leave but we definitely had a great time and learnt a great amount about Antarctica. I’m sure everyone had huge amounts of fun and personally I wish I could do it again.
