Our aim is to assist students to become more
confident, clear and focused speakers in a public situation.
This will provide them with an improved self esteem and assist
them in the greater world beyond the school fence.
Public speaking is an integral part of the
Department’s Literacy program and is therefore part of every
classroom curriculum. The Northern Suburbs Public Speaking
Competition endeavours to provide a focus for these skills in
addition to allowing students to exercise speaking talents to a
high level of achievement.
On Wednesday 3rd
August Stanwell Park students participated in the Northern
Illawarra Public Speaking Competition. There were 6 schools
represented and while Stanwell Park did not take home a trophy,
all children who competed and went along as support crew gained
invaluable experience. The adjudicators reflected on the high
standard from all contestants, and the manner in which the
children delivered their speeches. Taking part in a rigorous
activity like public speaking and delivering an impromptu speech
with only 5 minutes for preparation is an onerous task and our
three contestants did a great job.
Congratulations go to
Aidan,
Inez, and Terlya.
Thanks must also go to
parents who helped by driving children to the venue and
providing much needed support.
