Stanwell Park Public School has a successful
debating component as part of our English program operating in
Stage 3. Our school regularly participates in the Northern
Schools Debating Competition, a competition involving schools
from many local schools. We have been extremely successful,
being undefeated in the last 2 years, winning the Northern
Schools Debating Competition in 2003 and 2004. All pupils in
year 6 take part in the formation of the debate with 4 new
debaters being chosen each week to go away to take part in the
competition. The objective is to give as many children as
possible the chance to partake in the experience. Talking in
front of an audience, working as a team, thinking on your feet,
these and many more are all excellent skills for the future that
we at Stanwell Park Public feel the children derive from
debating.
This year for the first time we will be
taking part in the Premiers Debating Challenge, a State Wide
competition. |
